Every body is talking about Mothers Day for the last few days but for me now on , my MOTHERS DAY falls on Shivrathri day, the day we chose to worship LORD SHIVA on the auspicious day!
This day my mother chose, to breath her last, ..with Om namah shivaya, on her lips, in the wee hours, of
morning of 10th March,2013..the auspicious day of Shivrathri. !. There is a belief, I am told that, on Shivarathri day, the doors of Abode of Lord Shiva is open. so, is that the reason my Mother chose ,early morning of that day ?
prepared herself, by uttering "OM'',and sip as many drops of "Holy Theertha",as she was fortunate enough to give birth to and bring up.. sons , daughters, grand children, great grandchildren, sons in law and daughters in law , great grand daughter s in law and great grand sons in laws .My sister, Latha and Devi my brother, his wife, who were at her bed side tell me that with out missing a drop, she sipped away the holy 'cauvery theertha,' in the name of her kith and kin up to a full bottle !!! Perhaps, she wanted to present herself cleansed fully, her mind ,soul and body to be at the feet of Lord Shiva, though, she has worked hard enough, suffered enough, repented enough , to clean herself during the long years she, lived and
awaited for this day up to her ninety five years of "Good life''.
My mind wanders in quest of answers to the connections of life and death to divinity.. I remember, as a child I heard the sacred word "OM'' for the first time, only from my mother's lips as she used to utter 'OM',
when ever she was ready to pray in the morning and evening, and then" Namah shivaya" though not spending much time in pooja, rituals ect...believing in" work is worship"
MOMMY... MY mother, I miss you... of all the motherly things you did, ....i miss your long query's when ever I rang up to you, every week,. I had to wait for you to finish all your questions.. do you eat well? sleep well? how is the pain in your ankles/ do not climb up and down too much? Do you sleep well? after all this answered ,I get a gap, to ask you.. ''MOMMY... how are you?" Then only , of course you come out with your complaints of body pain and....so on. Now I realise that it was YOU, MY MOTHER and only YOU who asked me the things you were concerned about and only a MOTHER can do it !
I must tell you last two weeks , on Sunday, I sat near my phone ,lifted it, to ring you up, only to
realise, the bitter truth, that I can not call you any more, and get pampered by you ! but a consolation that, I can think of you everyday and your blessings are always there with me!

Beautiful post, Awwa!! I had tears in my eyes......you described Ammaji's last moments so beautifully. Big hug to you
Beautiful memories and I can understand how much you miss her .
Our kind of mothers belonged to a period !
Reminded me of my mother who once called me late night in Dubai from her village in Kerala to remind me to make sure I locked the front door as Babu was away on work !!!!
They made us feel like kids and when they left us , we grew older suddenly and lonely . Their blessings will help to carry on our life's journeys !
